A cheap, sensitive and practical track detector for radon

  • 1. National Radiation Lab., Christchurch (New Zealand)

Description

This paper describes a track etch system for detecting atmospheric alpha activity. It is cheap because the detector material is a commercial building material available in bulk. It is sensitive because not only does the sensitivity compare favourably with any other reported track etch systems, but also any latent no-dose tracks can be removed by an annealing procedure. It is practical because it can be exposed on its own, unfettered by ancillary membranes or other requirements
