Feedback of operational safety experience

The paper reports on an international symposium on the feedback of operational safety experience from nuclear power plants, organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency and Nuclear Energy Agency, Paris, 1988. The papers presented include the topic of coordination between individual station level and utility level in terms of reporting and feedback. An example of such coordination is the computerised data base system called NUPER (Nuclear Plant Event Reports) in the U.K., and details of the system are given. Other utility organisations such as the Institute of Nuclear Power Operators (USA) and Electricitie de France both have a well established event reporting system. Operating experience in the Soviet Union, the importance of reports directly from utility operators, and a worldwide association to exchange nuclear operating experience, are also discussed. (U.K.)
