Faciologic characterization of coal beds in the Cerquilho region, state of Sao Paulo, Brazil
Description
Since 1981, NUCLEBRAS, researches the Tubarao group in the state of Sao Paulo, in order to evaluate the uraniferous potential of carbonaceous sediments in the Parana Basin. This work discusses geologic information concerning the Cerquilho area, where, the faciologic and structural characterization of the coal beds (or seams) were analyzed, and the main targets for uranium concentration were identified. Such study was performed through detailed field observations, imagery and aerial photograph interpretation as well as well logging analysis. Results suggested that the uraniferous anomalies are controlled by fluvial channels cutting the coal beds, with periglacial influence. (Author)

Desde 1981, a NUCLEBRAS, vem pesquisando o Grupo Tubarao no Estado de Sao Paulo visando uma avaliacao do potencial uranifero das formacoes carbonosas da borda da Bacia Sedimentar do Parana. O trabalho apresenta informacoes geologicas sobre a area de Cerquilho, onde voltou-se a compreensao do comportamento faciologico e estrutural do intervalo que encerra as camadas de carvao, identificando alvos promissores de concentracoes de uranio. Os estudos foram elaborados atraves de observacoes de campo, analises fotoestruturais de imagens aereas e interpretacoes de perfis de sondagens. Os resultados acusaram um controle das anomalias de uranio por parte de canais fluviais atravessando as camadas de carvao, com influcencia glacial. (D.M.)Files
