Coexistence of three different shapes in 28Si
- 1. Florida State Univ., Tallahassee (USA)
- 2. Tokyo Univ., Tanashi (Japan). Inst. for Nuclear Study
Description
Extensive agreement is found between the experimental levels in 28Si and the combined SU3-Hartree-Fock and the Nilsson-Strutinsky theoretical treatments. Of particular interest is a K = 0+ band representing a third shape with element of approx.= 0.45 and #betta# approx.= 150 which coexists with the previously known oblate and prolate bands. This new band crosses the prolate and oblate bands in the vicinity of Jsup(π) = 8+ producing a strong backbend. (orig.)
