Report

Ministry of Industry and Trade project 'Methodological and technological approaches to the safety of VVER nuclear power plants' from the CONSORTIUM program. Final report

Description

The report is structured as follows: (1) Safety analyses of VVER NPPs. Safety assessment of PWRs by using thermal hydraulic spatial multicomponent and multiphase models (Safety assessment; Computer code validation; Development of graphical tools to visualize input and output data); (2) Development and implementation of advanced tools for VVER primary circuit diagnosis and performance specifications of tools in support of emergency management action control (advance diagnosis of VVER 1000 and VVER 440 primary circuits; Methodology of performance specifications of tools to organize and manage action in case of emergency at the Dukovany NPP); (3) Enhancing the resistance of VVER 440/213 reactors to severe accidents (Evaluation of experiments with a melt pool simulation material; Evaluation of factors affecting power distribution in the melt pool and computer analyses of external VVER-440/213 reactor vessel cooling; Conditions of heat removal by external vessel cooling and proposal for a successfulness assessment procedure); (4) Support to risk management of NPP operation and maintenance technology (Support to risk management; Maintenance cost optimization, spare parts management; Human factor - a dominant element in the operation of NPPs); and (5) Integrity and service life of reactor pressure vessels (RPV integrity during pressurized thermal shock; RPV integrity in transient regimes; Determination of neutron fluences hitting the RPV wall).
