The application of stable carbon isotope ratios as water quality indicators in coastal areas of Canada

  • 1. Atlantic Oceanographic Lab., Bedford Inst. of Oceanography, Dartmouth, N.S. (Canada)

Description

The principles, applicability and limitations of the 13C/12C technique in water quality studies are discussed and critically evaluated. Preliminary results from Bedford Basin, an area which receives considerable domestic sewage effluent, and St. Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, a relatively pollution-free marginal bay, are presented and discussed.
