Description

An attempt is made to identify and discuss some general methodological problems related to the assessment of genetic radiation effects, particularly in aquatic invertebrate forms, while specific technical details are mentioned only in a few instances. The long experience and the philosophy of radiation protection of man are taken as examples to illustrate a possible approach to the general problem, in the light of the recommendations of previous Agency Panel work. It is suggested that at the present time single species are treated separately from populations and ecosystems because of different methodologies. Some comments are included on the low doses and dose rates, and on the combined effects of radiation with other stresses. (author)
