Soft X-ray continua from AGN accretion disc models
Description
We calculate the soft X-ray emission expected from geometrically thin accretion models of active galactic nuclei, using a self-consistent atmosphere code. We show that (i) radiation pressure is a severe constraint, typically limiting the accretion luminosity to a few per cent of the Eddington limit, and (ii) blackbody modelling of the soft X-rays can lead to very large errors in estimates of physical conditions.
