Creators

Description

This article considers how the use of controlled nuclear chain reactions has changed the world over the last fifty years both politically and economically starting from the first experiment in a Chicago squash court in December 1942. Once the first experiments had been carried out, the enormous energies released led to speculation about and the eventual construction of nuclear weapons. The developments leading to this first successful experiment are noted. (UK)
