Pomeron and QCD physics at low χ

Description

A connection between small-χ deep inelastic scattering (DIS) and high-energy hadronic interactions is discussed. Properties of the pomeron in QCD are considered and an important role of multi-pomeron exchanges for supercritical pomeron is emphasized. It is argued that in DIS these contributions are much less important and energy behavior of the structure function in DIS is determined by the bare pomeron exchange. It is shown that the model based on these ideas is in a perfect agreement with recent results from HERA. Diffractive production in DIS is discussed and it is emphasized that both quarks and gluons in the pomeron have hard distributions
