P-scan, a new system for ultrasonic weld inspection
Description
The P-scan method is explained. It is described how the new P-scan system improves the ultrasonic method by adding means for visualization, data storage and documentation. Three different scanners are described: One designed for manual operation, another for automatic operation and a third for semiautomatic operation. The p'scan image of an ultrasonically examined test plate is presented and discussed. The variable Display Level (i.e. the inspection sensitivity) facility is described. The main advantage of this facility is the fact that the level can be varied at any time after the inspection. (orig.)

Das P-scan-Verfahren wird beschrieben, und es wird aufgezeigt, wie das neue P-Scan-System das Ultraschallverfahren durch die Moeglichkeit der optischen Darstellung, Datenverarbeitung und Dokumentation erweitert. Es werden drei verschiedene Arten von Bildabtastern beschrieben: manuell, automatisch und halbautomatisch. Das P-Scan-Bild einer mit Ultraschall untersuchten Pruefplatte wird vorgestellt und diskutiert. Die verwendete Anlage mit variabler Pruefgenauigkeit hat den wesentlichen Vorteil, dass die Pruefgenauigkeit jederzeit nach der Pruefung eingestellt werden kann. (orig.)Additional details
