Activation analysis of biological materials using cadmium filters

  • 1. Laboratoire d'Analyse par Activation Pierre Sue, Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Saclay, 91 - Gif-sur-Yvette (France)

Description

The analytical possibilities of an activation technique with a cadmium filter using a long-term activation in intense neutron flux is described and applied to biological specimens: human serum, NBS bovine liver and BOWEN's kale. The preparation of the samples is given. The organic content was destroyed before irradiation. The specimens were irradiated in the OSIRIS reactor in CEN-Saclay. The detections limits for 4 elements, Mo, Ni, Co, and Zn, with a cadmium filtered and unfiltered neutron irradiation are given. (G.Gy.)
