Practical use of laser in lanthanide chemistry
Creators
Description
The principles and a simplified diagram of lasers, and their classification are given. Examples are described of photochemical separation of metals from solutions using laser beams, and the course of the process is described. Laser radiation of a wavelength of 190 nm was used for the photoreduction of trivalent europium in form of an aqua-complex, to bivalent Eu. The resulting Eu (II) was precipitated using SO42-. Following dissolution in HNO3 a europium solution was obtained of a high purity. (E.S.). 2 figs., 3 tabs., 6 refs
