Description

Colour–magnitude and two-colour diagrams have been obtained from photographic UBV photometry of 1079 stars brighter than V = 18m in and near NGC 5927. The colour–magnitude diagram consists of a stubby red horizontal branch, a possible asymptotic branch and a rather flat giant branch, so the cluster probably is a member of the class of relatively metal-rich globulars typified by 47 Tuc. The foreground star density is high but, with the aid of the two-colour diagram, it is possible to distinguish between field and cluster stars. Attempts to determine the reddening were inconclusive and in any case it appears to vary across the cluster. A detailed map of the reddening could not be obtained but an apparently uniformly reddened region where EB−V ≈ 0m.52 was isolated whence the parameters describing the cluster's colour–magnitude diagram were found to be ΔV = 1m.7 and (B−V)0,g = 0.92.
