Description
The possibilities for production of Fe-B alloys with chemical composition conforming to initial composition of powder mixtures were considered for the case of mechanical alloying. It was established that various ratios of crystalline (Fe3B, Fe2B', FeB) and amorphous phases were formed depending on duration of mechanical mixing of Fe and B powders. Powder mixture of component mass relationship correlating with FeB equiatomic composition was treated in a planetary ball mill. The most quantity of phases with boron concentration close to 50 at.% constituted 86 % for milling time of 10 h. Milling time increase above 10 h resulted in a decrease of high boron phase content
