Monitoring of selected radionuclides in groundwater

Description
In the area of nuclear power nuclear power plant Bohunice implementing of monitoring groundwater EKOSUR Company according to the approved monitoring plan. Network of monitoring wells and remediation wells and draws on the knowledge of the geological structure and hydrogeological conditions of the site, model calculations of real and potential leaks and the possible spread of contamination in groundwater. In monitoring the groundwater measured activity concentration of 137Cs, volume activities of 3H, volume activities of 90Sr, and total volume beta activity. Sampling is done by EKOSUR and for determining the specific activity observed radionuclides are used validated methods of testing, conducted since 2006 and accredited test laboratory authorized by radio-chemical analysis at the Department of Nuclear Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava. Those results confirm the appropriateness of the methods for determining the specific activity of monitored radionuclides in groundwater, which are low-level measurement activities. Minimum detectable activities are below the required sensitivity of measurements by Decree no. 524/2007 Code establishing details of the radiation monitoring network. Also in reporting period of monitoring can talk about trends and possible deviations from normal values, as in the evaluation of monitoring the volume activity measured values means that while disadvantages values which would be remote. The work carried out in terms of radiation protection and risk assessment confirmed that the pollution of groundwater around the Bohunice nuclear power plant can cause harm to any individual in the population, since the limit indicators applicable legal standards are higher than actual values.
