Radiolysis of binary solutions of nitrite and persulphate ions
Description
The γ-radiolysis of aqueous solutions of binary solutions of NO2- and S2O82- ions shows that G(NO3-) is higher while G(-S2O82-) is lower in synthetic mixtures as compared to those in pure systems. A study of the competitive kinetics has yielded a value of 3.4 for Gsub((e)sub(aq)sup(-)+H) and a value of 0.41 for the ratio of the rate constants of the hydrated electron with NO2- and S2O82- ions. A mechanism consistent with the observed results is proposed. (author)
