Effects of gamma-rays on seedling height and chromosome aberrations in Triticale

Description
The present investigation was undertaken to study the effects of various doses of gamma-irradiation on seedling growth and cytology in two varieties of Triticale, namely T-108/2 and T-39. Seedling growth was considerably reduced at higher doses of irradiation. Various cytological abnormalities were observed at anaphase and metaphase during mitotic and meiotic cell divisions. Some abnormalities were observed in the control also which may be due to lack of pairing between rye and wheat chromosomes. Variety T-39 appears to be slightly resistant to radiation doses as compared to variety T-108/2. (author)
