Study on the relationship between serum CA15-3, IL-8, levels and bone metastasis in patients with breast cancer

Description
Objective: To study the relationship between serum CA15-3, IL-8 levels and bone metastasis in patients with breast cancer. Methods: Serum CA15-3 and IL-8 levels were measared with IRMA and wholebody bone scan with 99mTc-MDP were performed in 83 post-operative patients with breast cancer and 30 controls (CA15-3 and IL-8 only). Results: The serum CA15-3 and IL-8 levels in patients with negative bone scan (n=35) were not much different from those in controls (P>0.05). The serum levels in patients with bone metastasis on scan (n=48) were significantly higher than those in patients with negative scan and controls (P <0.05). Conclusion: Serum CA15-3 and IL-8 levels were well correlated with presence of bone metastasis in patients with breast cancer and measurement of these markers might be of diagnostic and prognostic value.
