Photoluminescent and electrochemical properties of coumarin based derivative CTC

Description

To understand the dipole moment and solvatochromic behaviour of coumarin derivative CTC 1-((4-((5-chlorobenzo(d)oxazol-2-ylthio)methyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)methyl)-3H-benzo(f)chromen-3-one, we have recorded absorption and fluorescent spectra using different polarity of solvent at room temperature. The bathochromic shift was observed in fluorescent spectra with varying solvent polarity which implies π-π* transition. The ground state and excited state dipole moment were calculated using salvatochromic correlations such as Lippert-Mataga, Bakhshiev, Kawaski-chamma-viallet, and Reichardt's microscopic solvent polarity functions. We have observed excited state dipole moment is more polar than the ground state dipole moment. Cyclic voltammetry measurements were carried out to estimate the HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital) LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) energy levels, their energy gap and global reactivity parameters. The energy gap was found to be very low which indicates molecule is more reactive. Hence spectroscopic and electrochemical properties can give a better understanding of their use in photonic devices
