Ultrafast laser surgery of dendrites

Description

We use an ultrafast laser to cut dendritic trees of mammalian neurons in the cortex. We show that the cut seals and normal transmembrane ion exchange is restored after ~5 minutes. Subsequently the neurons are functional and able to fire action potentials. (author)
