Local structure and speciation of uranium in strontium orthosilicate: TRFS and EXAFS studies

Description

TRFS is used to investigate the valence state and coordination behavior of uranium in strontium orthosilicate. From TRFS measurement it was observed that uranium exists as U(VI) in the form of UO22+ in Sr2SiO4 . Based on life time measurement and EXAFS studies it was inferred that uranyl is stabilized on both 9- and 10- coordinated strontium polyhedra. Majority of uranyl ion occupy relatively asymmetric site in strontium silicate most probably 9-coordinated Sr sites. (author)
