Description
This study investigated the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) characteristics of hydroxyapatite (HAp) derived from chicken eggshells, a readily available bio-waste, for low-level radiation dosimetry applications which is less explored. The eggshells were employed as a calcium source in HAp synthesis. The X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results confirmed its purity and crystallinity. The OSL properties of the synthesized HAp demonstrated excellent reproducibility, reusability, and dose linearity up to 20 Gy, with a measurable dose range of 22 mGy. The favorable OSL characteristics, combined with the utilization of waste materials, offer significant advantages for environmental and medical radiation monitoring.
