Relativistic electromagmetic waves in an electron-ion plasma

Description
High power laser beams can drive plasma particles to relativistic energies. An accurate description of strong waves requires the inclusion of ion dynamics in the analysis. The equations governing the propagation of relativistic electro-magnetic waves in a cold electron-ion plasma can be reduced to two equations expressing conservation of energy-momentum of the system. The two conservation constants are functions of the plasma stream velocity, the wave velocity, the wave amplitude and the electron-ion mass ratio. The dynamic parameter, expressing electron-ion momentum conservation in the laboratory frame, can be regarded as an adjustable quantity, a suitable choice of which will yield self-consistent solutions when other plasma parameters have been specified. Circularly polarized electromagnetic waves and electrostatic plasma waves are used as illustrations. (author)

Feixes de laser de lata potencia podem direcionar particulas de plasma a energias relativisticas. Uma descricao precisa das fortes ondas requer a inclusao da dinamica dos ions na analise. As equacoes que governam a propagacao de ondas eletromagneticas relativisticas num plasma frio eletro-ionica podem ser reduzidas a duas equacoes expressando a conservacao da energia-momento do sistema. As duas constantes de conservacao sao funcoes da velocidade do fluxo do plas*a, da velocidade da onda, da amplitude da onda razao de massa eletron-ion. O parametro dinamico, expressando a conservacao do momento eletron-ion no sistema de laboratorio, pode ser visto como uma quantidade ajustavel, uma escolha adequada da qual produzira solucoes auto consistentes quando outros parametros de plasma forem especificados.
