Description

Currently, many of the newest nuclear power plant technologies are being offered to be built in Indonesia, one of the technologies being intensively offered to be built in Indonesia is the Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) type of nuclear power plant. The company offering this MSR type of nuclear power plant is PT ThorCon Indonesia. PT ThorCon has presented their designs to various parties such as BAPETEN, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and other agencies. PT ThorCon named their reactor Thorium Molten Salt Reactor 500 (TMSR 500). Therefore there needs to be a study to review their design, especially related to safety aspects. From the results of reviewers related to the TMSR 500 design, there are several reviews related to the TMSR 500 design, which include: in general, documents explaining the TMSR 500 design are still very general and not yet detailed, so the results of the review cannot be carried out in depth, for the neutronic design, the emergence of voids in the reactor core needs to be considered because when the voids in the core increase to 65 % it will cause a positive reactivity of 0.115(5dk/k)/(%void), ThorCon MSR is designed for NBD 50 mSv/year. This is not in accordance with NBD regulations in Indonesia. (author)
