Basic data of radiation physics

  • 1. Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Tokyo (Japan)

Description

This report is a compilation of basic data and bibliography concerning the interaction of radiation with matter and will be useful for research scientists and engineers engaged in radiation dosimetry or related fields. Its special features are as follows: (a) The compiled data and references are mostly obtained from recent publications (1968 -- June, 1978). (b) Comparison between experimental data and theoretical calculations is stressed as far as possible in order to show the accuracy of experiments and theory. (c) The compiled references at the end of this article will guide the readers to the recent progress in the above-mentioned fields. The main contents are such as fundamental physical quantities and units, photon cross sections, electron stopping powers and ranges, heavy ion stopping powers and ranges for typical ion-target combinations, penetration of these radiations into thin and thick layers of matter, W values, etc. (author)
