133Xe for the x-ray fluorescence assessment of gold in vivo

  • 1. Royal United Hospital, Bath (UK). Wessex Regional Medical Physics Dept.

Description

In this paper the authors explore the feasibility of using X-ray fluorescence for in vivo gold assessment and whether sufficient sensitivity can be achieved. The technique is similar to that employed by Somervaille et al (1985) to measure bone lead in vivo. A 133Xe source was used to excite the gold Ksub(α) X-rays and a high-purity germanium detector to detect the characteristic radiation. (author)
