On the photochemical reactions in the system XeF4 + F2 ↔ XeF6
Description
The photosynthesis and photolysis of xenon hexafluoride were investigated. According to the results obtained, a true photochemical equilibrium exists which lies far over to the xenon tetrafluoride side. The influence of some reaction conditions (e.g. starting amount of reactants, addition of excess fluorine, presence of nickel difluoride) on the course of the reaction is described. Photochemical dissociation of xenon hexafluoride has been found to be a very convenient laboratory method for the preparation of pure elemental fluorine and xenon tetrafluoride
