Study on the integration of the Purex process and the TRPO process in nuclear fuel cycle back end

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Energy Technology, Tsinghua University Beijing, 102201 (China)

Description

Six integration processes of reprocessing and partitioning of spent nuclear fuel solution are proposed based on the computation of the Purex process and the Chinese TRPO (mixed trialkyl phosphine oxide) process, and on the experimental investigation of TRPO/kerosene and TBP/TRPO/kerosene systems. Brief evaluation for these processes are given. The results show that direct connection of the TRPO process to a conventional Purex process is practical. The Purex process can be simplified when it is integrated with the TRPO process. TBP/TRPO/kerosene extraction system is promising for the treatment of spent nuclear fuel
