Experience on photographing aurorae from space

Description

A description is presented of the visual and photo observations of aurora carried out in the zone of the southern auroral oval. The observations were made aboard the Orbital Station ''Salyut-4'' on July 3, 1975. The photometry was performed by using the microphotometer IFO-451. According to the photometrical data, the spatial distribution of the auroral brightness and the dynamics of its development have been obtained. The vertical distribution of the brightness is presented, being 6-7 km higher from the boundary of the auroral display
