Description

A design study for a loop-type 1000 MW(e) LMFBR has been performed, aiming at achieving an economic target of less than 1.5 times LWR costs. Two of the most promising concepts, the improved monoplanar piping system (IMPS) and the nozzleless piping system (NLPS), have been selected and are discussed in the paper. The feasibility of these concepts has been studied by performing mechanical and thermohydraulic analyses. The NLPS has been chosen as the reference system design and system design has been carried out. The paper gives a general description of the plant and presents a new concept of an economic LMFBR.
