The radioenzymatic determination of adrenaline and noradrenaline in plasma and its use in the diagnostic of pheochromocytomas
Description
The radioenzymatic determination of adrenaline and noradrenaline in human plasma for the diagnosis of pheochromocytomas was put to use after improvements were made with respect to extraction and separation steps. The plasma catecholamines at rest were distinctly higher in patients with pheochromocytomas. The plasma catecholamine level showed a significant increase as well with the glucagon test between the second and fifth minute. The method was not well suited for the localisation diagnostic where the plasma catecholamines were determined in selectively taken blood from the lower vena cava. Overall, however, the radioenzymatic determination of catecholamines in plasma proved itself to be a relatively ponderous, but exact and sensitive method for the measuring of basal catecholamine level and its changes. In the clinical area it is used as a valuable supplement to the contemporary diagnostic of pheochromocytomas. (orig./TRV)
Abstract (German)
Die radioenzymatische Bestimmung von Adrenalin und Nor-Adrenalin im menschlichen Plasma wurde nach Verbesserungen im Hinblick auf Extraktions- und Trennungsschritte zur Diagnostik des Phaeochromozytoms eingesetzt. Die Plasma-Katecholamine in Ruhe waren bei den Phaeochromozytom-Patienten deutlich erhoeht. Darueber hinaus wiesen beim Glukagon-Test die Plasma-Katecholamin-Spiegel bei den Phaeochromozytom-Patienten zwischen der 2. und 5. Minute einen signifikanten Anstieg auf. Fuer die Lokalisationsdiagnostik durch Bestimmung der Plasmakatecholamine in selektiv entnommenem Blut aus der unteren Hohlvene war die Methode nicht geeignet. Insgesamt erwies sich jedoch die radioenzymatische Bestimmung der Katecholamine im Plasma als relativ aufwendige, aber genaue und empfindliche Methode zur Messung basaler Katecholaminspiegel und deren Veraenderungen. Im klinischen Bereich wurde sie als wertvolle Ergaenzung der bisherigen Diagnostik des Phaeochromozytoms eingesetzt. (orig./TRV)
