Report on NIRS cyclotron facility

The features of cyclotron facilities of the National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS) are that a large proportion of machine operation time is spent on the production of radioactive isotopes for the active in-house development of molecular probes, as well as for the use and supply of the molecular probes inside and outside the facilities. The cyclotron facilities of NIRS have been steadily promoting the operation and management of the facilities including two cyclotrons in FY2017. The total operation time of the large cyclotron in FY2017 was 1645 hours. An increase in beam provision time spent for nuclear medicine research was conspicuous in FY2017 and it increased by about 23% compared with the previous year (704 hours). Stable beam supply was maintained by the large cyclotron, and the none-operation time due to failure etc. was reduced to 15 hours, which is less than half of the previous year (34 hours). The total operation time of the compact cyclotron was 1547 hours, which was almost the same as in the previous year. These facts are shown in detail. (A.O.)
