Summary of energy statistics for dwellings and non-residential premises for 1998 and 1999

Description

More than one-third of the one- and two-dwelling buildings were heated by electricity. In 1999, about 17 per cent were heated by a combination of firewood and electricity and about 14 per cent by oil only. All of these heating types were decreasing compared to the previous year. District heating during 1999 was used to heat 75 per cent of multi-dwelling buildings and 53 per cent of non-residential premises. For both kinds of buildings, this type of heating had increased compared to 1998. The second common heating form, oil, was used for heating in 8 and 9 per cent respectively, which was about the same as in 1998. The use of heating pumps increased compared to 1998. Combined heating with heating pumps were used for a higher share of the heated area in all kinds of buildings. In one- and two-dwelling buildings, 10 per cent of the total heated area was heated in this way in 1999, in multi-dwelling buildings 6 per cent and in non-residential premises 9 per cent. The use of energy per square metre was lower for 1999 than 1998 due to milder winter months. The average use of energy was lowest in non-residential premises and highest in multi-dwelling buildings. The total heated area in one- and two-dwelling and multi-dwelling buildings and non-residential premises was 578 million square metres. Furthermore, there existed about 83 million square metres heated area in buildings assessed as industry units and about 6 million square metres heated area in leisure cottages
