Detection limits of external beam PIXE in the analysis of thick samples for elements with Z 26
Description
The limit of detection of the external beam PIXE method was investigated in the proton energy range 1.7-5.6 MeV for elements with Z >= 26. The effect of matrix composition was studied by evaluating detection limits for typical thick organic, biomedical, bone and geological samples. Particular attention was paid to the optimization of measuring times. (author)
