Description
Energy absorption build-up factor (EABF) values have been calculated for vital human organs such as brain, heart, kidney, liver, lung, ovary, pancreas, spleen, and tongue, for the photon energy range 0.015–15 MeV and for penetration depths up to 40 mean free paths (mfp). The five-parameter geometric progression (G-P) fitting approximation and ANSI/ANS-6.4.3-1991 (American National Standard) library have been used to calculate EABF. The EABF has been studied as functions of incident photon energy and penetration depth. It is also found that the EABF of human organs significantly change by varying the incident photon energy and the penetration depth. These changes are due to the dominance of different photon interaction processes in different energy regions. (author).
