A new approach to the SU(3) Skyrme model
Description
On the basis of the collective coordinate quantization method, a new method to exactly treat the SU(3) symmetry breaking in the SU(3) Skyrme model is proposed. The masses of the baryons belonging to the lower multiplets are calculated by this method. Good agreement with experimental values is obtained when the vacuum-like energy correction is made and when somewhat stronger symmetry breaking is adopted. The strong symmetry breaking limit in our approach is studied and it is found that the mass formula in this limit has a form quite similar with the ones derived by the bound state approach. Comparison with two other methods, i.e. the collective-coordinate method with perturbation and the bound state approach, shows that these methods are two extreme approximations to our exact method.
