Description

In order to investigate the distribution of carbon in the ferritic-austenitic X5CrNiTi26.6 steel, three melts of this steel were labelled with 14C. The radioactive carbon was introduced into the melts as a master alloy, which was obtained by carburizing soft-iron capsules. Macro- and microautoradiographs were taken from the heat treated specimens, allowing to trace the carbon distribution between ferrite and austenite both qualitatively and quantitatively. In addition, inhomogeneities in the carbon distribution, which were due to secondary austenite formation, δ-eutectoid formation, and grain-boundary precipitations, could be traced. (author)
