Public engagement on Canada's plan for the long-term management of used nuclear fuel
Description
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) continues to lead the site selection process for finding a safe site with an informed and willing host for Canada's deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel and associated Centre of Expertise. NWMO seeks to design and implement its plans through collaboration. This presentation will review the experience of NWMO to date in identifying approaches to engagement that provide for meaningful involvement and collaboration. Experience will be shared on lessons learned in engaging communities and the broad range of important local, regional and national opinion leaders key to ensuring social acceptability and continued progress with implementing Canada's plan.
