Clinical evaluation of BresTome TOF-PET system

  • 1. Shimadzu Corporation, Medical Systems Division, Research & Development Department, Kyoto (Japan)

Description

To evaluate the clinical performance of BresTome, we performed a collaborative study at Kindai University using a prototype of BresTome. We confirmed that the scanner, which consists of a small detector and a small aperture, had high-physical performance, including high-spatial resolution. Without causing exposure to external radiation, the attenuation correction algorithm was able to visualize the non-uniform distribution of the attenuation coefficient of the 3D brain phantom and was considered to have practical correction accuracy. From the clinical evaluation of the brain, the image from BresTome visualized the fine structure of distribution, which is difficult to separate by conventional whole-body PET. These results are considered to contribute to improving the diagnostic accuracy of brain diseases. (author)

Abstract (Japanese)

TOF(Time of Flight)-PET (Positron Emission Tomography)
