Radioactive gaseous waste processing method
Description
Radioactive wastes such as vinyl chloride resins and rubbers contaminated by ruthenium (Ru) generated from a nuclear power plant are processed in an incinerator or a melting furnace. Radioactive gaseous wastes containing generated RuO4 are at first put to primary filtration and secondary filtration at a temperature range of from 700 to 800degC to remove dusts. Water is sprayed to lower the gas temperature to a range of from 150 to 350degC. They are brought into contact with adsorbents mainly comprising silica and iron oxide to adsorb and remove RuO4. Then, they are brought into contact with adsorbents mainly comprising calcium to absorb and remove HCl and SOx. With such procedures, RuO4, HCl and SOx can be removed from the radioactive wastes containing RuO4 without generation of wastes. Accordingly, various equipments and an great amount of handling operations which have been required in prior cases are no more necessary. (T.M.)
