Uranium mineralisation in brecciated chert zones of Sausar group of rocks around Gulsitola, Vissala and Kusumdhana, Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh, India

  • 1. Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, Nagpur (India)

Description

For the first time, three uraniferous (0.01-0.11% U3O8), phosphatic (up to 25.08% P2O5) chert zones (parallel to sub-parallel and brecciated) have been recognised within migmatites and calc-silicate rocks of Early Proterozoic Sausar Group around Gulsitola, Vissala, and Kusumdhana. The x-ray diffractometric and petrographic studies indicate the presence of fluorapatite, apatite, magnetite, chlorite, barite and quartz. Cellulose nitrate film (CN-85) studies have shown scattered alpha tracks matching with geothite indicating that uranium may be adsorbed on iron oxide. (author)
