Microwave study on the plasma storage in an electromagnetic trap

Description

Production and accumulation of plasma in an electromagnetic trap by a SHF method in the regime of the electron cyclotron resonance have been investigated. The power of the SHF generator is 150 W, the frequency - 2400 MHz. It has been shown that in this case the rate of plasma accumulation at the pressure of 3x10-6 mm Hg exceeds by an order of magnitude the rate of plasma accumulation in a trap when injecting electron beam of the same power. The lifetime of particles after the SHF-pulse is switched off, coincides with the life time of plasma produced by an electron beam. The plasma density produced by the SHF method corresponds to the limiting density for the given trap
