Description
A gross resonance structure at 7.9 MeV with a FWHM of approximately 3 MeV is found in the Au(e,e') reaction. Comparison of the q-dependence of the observed cross-sections and those calculated in DWBA using microscopic transition densities for spin flip M1 transitions due to 5 particle-hole configurations indicate that this resonance is predominantly of M1 character with GAMMAsub(M1)>=144 eV.
