Mass loss from π Aquarii

  • 1. Observatorio Nacional, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

Description

Fe III lines from metastable states have been detected in the UV spectrum of π Aqr (HD 212571). The line profiles are asymmetric and they are probably formed in an expanding envelope. From the observed line widths and using the Sobolev approximation the author has derived a mass loss rate of about 2.5 x 10-9solar masses y-1. (Auth.)
