Removal cross sections for 14.8 MeV neutrons

Description

The attenuation of 14.8 MeV neutrons was determined using the sup(63)Cu(n,2n)sup(62)Cu threshold reaction for the detection of the primary neutrons. The attenuation of primary flux in different materials can be well described by a simple exponential relation based on the removal cross section. The microscopic removal cross sections determined for graphite, aluminium, steel and lead are given. The dependence of secondary neutron spectrum on the thickness of slabs was also investigated by threshold detectors. Nuclear temperatures were estimated from the secondary neutron spectra. (author)
