Description

A main problem of fusion reactors is the recovery and the confinement of the tritium which is bred in the blanket. The Breeding Ball Blanket which is proposed here uses as breeder subassemblies balls of some cm diameter which contain a solid breeding material. A little ball made of zirconium is placed in the center of the breeder subassembly, it serves the purpose of absorbing the tritium formed. Some preliminary calculations will lithium-lead alloys illustrating the concept were carried out. (orig.)
