radiochemical studies related to environmental radioactivities
Description
in this thesis, technically enhanced-naturally occurring radioactive materials (Te-Norm) associated with oil and gas production in Gabal El-Zeit (Suez ) and Badr El-Din fields (western desert), in Egypt, has been characterized in terms of mineralogical, chemical and radiological analysis. the obtained results indicated that, sediments of the the Te-Norm waste are mixtures contain sulphates, carbonates and silicates, which contain enhanced natural radioactivities due to presence of the primordial radionuclides of thorium (232TH) and uranium(235Uand 238U) series; radium - isotope (224Ra, 226Ra,228RA)as well as potassium (40K). Also, the produced wastewater samples contain the same radionuclides. radioactivity of the different Te-Norm samples are determined by γ-ray spectrometer with HPGe-detector; and their environmental impacts are evaluated. the results indicated that; for Te-Norm samples from Gabal EL-Zeit area, the high radioactivities (Bq/g) are found in the Te-Norm 2 , and equal 11.2,30.8, 10.6 and 11.3 Bq/g for 224Ra, 226ra,228Rs and 40K, respectively, while for samples Badr El-Din area, the high radioactivities (Bq/g), are found in the Te-Norm 3, and equal 167, 116,193 and 15.6 Bq/g, respectively. the calculated values of the radiation hazardous indices to evaluate the environmental impacts of all the te-norm samples, were found to be higher than the permissible safe levels
