Description

Problems associated with numerical models of radiative heat transfer are discussed. Analytical expressions for the radiant intensity, flux and flux divergence are reviewed in conjunction with the transfer equation. A Monte Carlo formulation sets the directions of the radiant heating path with a random number generator. The type and magnitude of error normally encountered in a six-flux approximation are reviewed, together with the concepts of narrow and wideband scaling to model the spectral transmissivity. Attention is given to one-dimensional radiant flux in a slab and a cylinder. Finally, solutions obtained for duct flow are summarized. 27 references
