Assessment of radiation protection and medical radiology parameters in Rio de Janeiro State based on MS-453 Regulation

The Institute for Radiation Protection and Dosimetry (IRD) maintains a evaluation program of safety and radiological protection of medical radiodiagnostic facilities in the state of Rio de Janeiro. This paper describes the main parameters presently evaluated for the general X-ray installation in accordance with Governmental Regulation on Radiation Protection in Radiodiagnostic and presents the results obtained in 108 general X-ray units in the year of 2000 in Rio de Janeiro. The observed results show that the majority of the clinics and hospitals investigated in this work are in disagreement with the regulation mainly in respect to the facilities quality control. (author)
